Emerging Technologies Lab

Client: University of Portsmouth

Project:

The supply and installation of an audio-visual system designed to demonstrate emerging internet technologies.

The Brief

The University of Portsmouth went out to tender for the supply and installation of an audio-visual system designed to demonstrate emerging internet technologies. The University went out to the HEPCW framework to find a competitive supplier with the skills and abilities to deliver the project.

Roche Audio Visual were awarded the contract to supply and install the system in December, with a February target date for the completion of the project. The system built around Crestron’s Digital Media product range was designed to be cutting edge with the ability to manage 4K resolutions throughout.

The brief from the client was to allow control of the switching and displays from a simple intuitive touch panel display. Roche Audio Visual were given free reign to apply any graphical user interface with the emphasis on producing something intuitive and easy to use. A full matrix solution required that any input could be routed to any display with ease.

Key Features

  • Cutting Edge Crestron Digital Media product range
  • Sonos Soundbars
  • Sony, Samsung and Panasonic Displays

The Solution

We attended site for the One-week allocated installation period. Care was taken to minimise the impact of cable runs on the room with the difficult routing of cables under the floor and through dado carried out by the experience Roche installation team.

Programming of the control system was done on site to provide a truly custom built solution. Special vinyl graphics were applied to the walls around the displays to colour code a red, yellow, blue and green link back to the touch screen controller in the middle of the room.
Each of the displays built-in smart capabilities where represented on the touch screen to allow the users of the room to fully explore the technologies within the displays. The installation team worked with the client to ensure project objectives were met and the installation completed on schedule. The University is keen to showcase the room it hopes will lead to further projects elsewhere on campus.

Partners

Roche are pleased to have played a part in a project that will display the powers of emerging technologies and benefit the University of Portsmouth and its students in the coming years. It is satisfying to be involved in a project that allows us to flex our muscles when it comes to showing range of our audio-visual capabilities.
